Hello once again friends,
Today is a big day. It’s the official release day of my new CD “Jesus Music Box”. It’s finally done and out there for you to hear, feel and touch. Part finish line, part new beginning, this afternoon I am reflecting over the past few months of hard work and heart that went into this music. I’ve known from a young age that I wanted to use music to spread the Gospel. That’s been my focus but a couple years ago something reignited in me. I grew up listening to lots and lots of Christian music. One of those bands was Degarmo & Key. Two guys playing rock-n-roll. I went to at least one concert of theirs and heard many of their songs. A couple years ago Dana Key from that band passed away and in the process I bought their greatest hits album as well as read several blog posts people I knew wrote about him. The thing that stuck out at me was something reoccurring in the posts. That the music of Degarmo & Key had helped shaped the theology of these listeners in their early days as a Christian. I remember asking myself how many people would be saying that about current Artists in twenty or more years. I don’t think many would (which is a whole other blog posts) but for me it made me want to be bold and not water down my lyrics or my faith in exchange for appearing to be cool. I personally believe you can be bold in your faith and still cool all at the same time. Over and over people wrote about how Evangelical D&K was in their concerts, how they stood up and preached at their concerts. As I listened to the truth of God’s word that is sung about time and time again in that greatest hits CD it reminded me of why I do what I do.
I believe Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
I believe God’s Word remains and it does not return void.
I believe God created us to worship Him.
I believe God wants to use us and our lives to tell His story.
I am bold in my faith. There is no question whatsoever about my music being Christian or not. It professes Jesus loudly. I am serious and passionate about making Jesus loud in my life and in my music so that all who listen will hear about the unfailing love of Jesus. I want this generation to be able to say that my music challenged them in their faith and helped them grow closer to Jesus. If that is what is said about me when my time on earth is done then I can rest easy in the presence of my Savior giving Him praise forevemore.
“Jesus Music Box” is not about being a closet or part-time Christian. “Jesus Music Box” is about celebrating how awesome Jesus is in our lives and letting others in our live experience His goodness through our lives.
I made a music video for “Not Ashamed” the first track on the new album. This song pretty much sums it up. Watch it now and share with your friends.
Thanks for all your love, support and prayers!
